Stop Desk vs Home Delivery in Algeria: Which Should You Offer?

Stop desk vs home delivery in Algeria: what the term means, how long Yalidine, ZR Express, EMS and Elogistia hold parcels at the desk, how pricing works, and how to offer both options at checkout without COD errors.

Stop Desk vs Home Delivery in Algeria: Which Should You Offer?

Stop desk vs home delivery in Algeria: for an Algerian online store, the most useful answer is to offer both, with a separate price for each option and for each wilaya (province). The customer chooses; your job is to make the choice clear at checkout, charge the right amount and use a carrier that handles both modes well.

For readers outside Algeria, whether sellers, analysts or diaspora shoppers, a quick definition: a stop desk is a carrier pickup point. The parcel is not brought to the door but waits at an office run by the carrier or by one of its partner agencies. The customer comes to collect it and pays on the spot if the order is cash on delivery (COD). Home delivery takes the parcel to the address the customer gave.

Attempts, holding periods and accepted weights vary by carrier. Below is what Yalidine, ZR Express, EMS, Elogistia, NOEST and Zimou Express publish.

In short

  • A stop desk is an office pickup: the customer travels to the desk, pays if the order is COD and leaves with the parcel.
  • At Yalidine, a parcel sent to a relay point gets 5 attempts within 5 days, against 3 attempts within 3 days for home delivery (general transport conditions, August 2026 version).
  • Holding time at the desk: 7 days free at ZR Express, 15 calendar days at EMS and at Elogistia.
  • None of these carriers publishes a complete price grid: compare your own home and stop desk rates, wilaya by wilaya.
  • On your store, show two prices per wilaya and a real list of desks. DZBuild does this, and it is the editorial team's pick for Algerian merchants (criteria below).

Stop desk meaning in Algeria: how desk delivery works

Every delivery company has its own vocabulary: "point relais (agences Yalidine et partenaires)", meaning relay point in Yalidine and partner agencies, at Yalidine; "Stop desk" at ZR Express; "points relais" at EMS; "Point Relais" at Zimou Express. The principle is the same everywhere:

  1. When ordering, the customer chooses office pickup and, if the store allows it, the exact desk.
  2. The carrier routes the parcel to that desk.
  3. The customer is notified. ZR Express says it sends a pickup code by SMS.
  4. The customer shows up, pays the amount due if the order is COD, and collects the parcel.

The desk network matters as much as the price. Yalidine's "Nos agences" (our agencies) page publishes the list of offices with addresses and GPS coordinates. On 3 November 2026 the editorial team counted 200 rows covering 55 wilayas, 102 of them Yalidine-branded offices and the rest partner agencies (Guepex, EasyAndSpeed, Zimou Express and others). That count is ours, not a figure published by Yalidine. See also our Yalidine guide: delivery prices, stop desks and tracking.

Stop desk vs home delivery: price, attempts, refusals and convenience

Price

No carrier we studied publishes a complete public rate card. The home delivery price in Algeria, like the stop desk price, depends on your contract:

  • Yalidine calculates its rates from the origin and destination wilayas and the higher of actual and volumetric weight, according to its general transport conditions, read on 3 November 2026. Its per-wilaya home and stop desk rates are delivered through its API.
  • ZR Express offers a calculator on its rates page (home or stop desk, 0.5 to 30 kg, 5 kg included); its API documentation states that merchant-specific prices take precedence over the general price list.
  • EMS says relay-point delivery is preferred by consumers because delivery costs are lower (according to the company, on its web merchants offer page).
  • Elogistia displayed "from 250 DA" (250 Algerian dinars) per shipment on its rate calculator on 3 November 2026, with no detailed grid.

For the stop desk price, the only reliable comparison is between your own synced rates; the gap varies with the contract, the wilaya and the weight.

Delivery attempts

  • Yalidine: 3 home attempts within a maximum of 3 days, or 5 relay-point attempts within a maximum of 5 days, before the parcel goes back to the sender. Parcels over 20 kg are delivered to relay points only.
  • Elogistia: if the first attempt fails, two more are made free of charge.
  • NOEST: three attempts per shipment under its general terms, then 24 hours at the hub and a return at the merchant's expense.

Refusals and returns

We found no reliable public statistics on refusals by delivery mode. The logic is simple: a parcel nobody collects sits at the desk until the holding period ends, then goes back. Returns cost money: Yalidine may charge 10 DZD (Algerian dinars) per day per parcel when the merchant does not pick up a return within 10 days. Order confirmation remains your best lever, whatever the mode: see our guide to reducing your COD return rate.

Customer convenience

With home delivery, the customer has nothing to do; ZR Express says it calls ahead and offers a delivery slot. With a stop desk, the customer chooses when to go, provided there is a desk nearby.

How long does a parcel stay at the stop desk?

Here is what the carriers publish, checked on 3 November 2026:

  • ZR Express
  • 7 days of free holding at the stop desk, an SMS pickup code, and desks open from 8:00 to 20:00, seven days a week (Stop desk page).
  • The same page claims 77 desks; other pages of the site give different figures.
  • COD cap: 150,000 DZD per delivered parcel. See our ZR Express guide and the ZR Express company profile.
  • Yalidine
  • 5 relay-point attempts within a maximum of 5 days before return; COD capped at 150,000 DZD per parcel.
  • EMS Champion Post
  • Parcels that cannot be delivered are held for 15 calendar days at the agency, then sent back to the sender through the drop-off agency (general terms of sale).
  • Payment on delivery in cash or by Edahabia card on a card terminal. See the EMS Champion Post profile.
  • Elogistia
  • Parcels held at an agency remain available to the recipient for 15 calendar days.
  • NOEST
  • Desk codes start with the wilaya number (for example 16A), according to the DZBuild documentation.
  • We found no published holding period at the desk.
  • Zimou Express
  • Point Relais option: the customer collects the parcel at the office of their choice.
  • The counter on its coverage page shows 797 offices, 10 of them run by Zimou Express itself; the others belong to its partner carriers.

Put the holding period in your confirmation message so the customer knows the last day to visit the desk (and, if you order from abroad, pass it on to the recipient).

Pickup point delivery in Algeria: relay points and lockers

Office pickup is no longer the only way to collect a parcel in Algeria. On 3 February 2026, EMS Champion Post pilot-launched its SmartBox Champion parcel lockers in four wilayas: Algiers, Oran, Sétif and Ghardaïa. The customer receives an SMS with a unique code to collect the parcel. In June 2026 the company listed lockers in Sétif, Sidi Abdellah, Tizi Ouzou, Ghardaïa, Boumerdès, Oran, Constantine and Guelma, and it aims for more than 2,000 units in 2026-2027 (according to the company). Its About page also mentions 53 relay points.

Other options worth knowing:

  • Zimou Express offers three modes: Express, Flexible (presented as the cheaper option) and Point Relais.
  • Elogistia has a relay-point finder that searches by the city's postal code.

Check actual coverage before offering these options.

How to offer stop desk on your store

  1. Set two prices per wilaya. One home delivery price, one stop desk price. Pull them from your carrier account rather than estimating them.
  2. Show a real list of desks. A caveat for ZR Express: the legacy Procolis platform has no named list; the customer picks a generic option per commune (municipality) and ZR Express assigns the desk at dispatch. Only the new ZR platform provides a named list (DZBuild documentation).
  3. Hide stop desk where it does not exist. In the Yalidine list checked on 3 November 2026, no desk appeared for Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Béni Abbès or In Guezzam.
  4. Check the amount collected. When DZBuild sends an order to ZR Express, the COD amount transmitted is the total, delivery included: the price shown at checkout must match what the courier collects.
  5. Confirm before shipping. A call or message verifies the customer's choice (home or desk) first.

Why DZBuild is the editorial team's pick

The editorial team recommends DZBuild for offering both options, on checkable criteria:

  • Two prices and a delivery time per wilaya: the merchant sets a home price, a stop desk price and a delivery time for each wilaya, or imports negotiated rates from a linked carrier.
  • Real desk lists synced from 14 carriers, including Zimou Express; the listed integrations include Yalidine, ZR Express, Noest and Elogistia.
  • Built-in COD on every store, Telegram alerts with Confirm and Cancel buttons, and orders sent to the carrier in batches of 50.
  • In-store pickup: the Pickup from Store add-on (Unlimited plan) offers pickup points with no delivery charge.
  • Stores in Arabic or French, with no commission on sales. A note for English-speaking sellers: stores and the dashboard work in Arabic and French; English is available only on the documentation site.
  • Prices read on 3 November 2026 on the pricing page: Pro at 1,000 DZD a month, Unlimited at 2,500 DZD, Enterprise from 5,500 DZD, with a 3-day Pro trial and no card required.

Checklist: stop desk or home delivery, what should you offer?

  • Does your carrier have desks in the wilayas where you sell the most?
  • Do you know both of your rates, home and stop desk, for every wilaya?
  • Do your parcels weigh more than 20 kg? At Yalidine, they then go to relay points only.
  • Can the customer choose a named desk, or only a commune?
  • Does your confirmation message state the holding period (7 days at ZR Express, 15 days at EMS and Elogistia)?
  • Does the COD amount shown include delivery?
  • Do you collect your returns quickly to avoid storage fees?

Key takeaways

Offer both options, with prices taken from your contract, a real list of desks and a clearly stated holding period.

Frequently asked questions

What does stop desk mean in Algeria?
A stop desk is a carrier pickup point: the parcel is collected at an office of the carrier or of a partner agency instead of being delivered to the customer's address. The customer is notified, goes to the desk, pays on the spot if the order is cash on delivery (COD) and leaves with the parcel. Yalidine calls it a relay point (point relais), ZR Express calls it a stop desk.
Is stop desk cheaper than home delivery?
EMS says relay-point delivery costs less, but Yalidine, ZR Express, EMS and Elogistia do not publish a complete price grid that would let you measure the gap. Rates depend on your contract, the wilaya (province) and the weight. Compare your own home and stop desk prices, synced from your carrier account, wilaya by wilaya.
Does stop desk reduce COD returns?
No reliable public statistics compare refusal rates between the two modes. At Yalidine, stop desk gives the customer more room (5 attempts within 5 days, against 3 within 3 days for home delivery), but a parcel that is never collected still ends up as a return. Confirming the order before shipping remains the main lever.
How long does a courier keep a parcel at the stop desk?
According to the pages read on 3 November 2026, ZR Express holds the parcel free of charge for 7 days at the stop desk. EMS and Elogistia hold it for 15 calendar days at the agency. At Yalidine, a relay-point parcel gets 5 attempts within a maximum of 5 days before it is returned to the sender.
