# Reduce COD Return Rate in Algeria: Order Confirmation Playbook

> How to reduce the COD return rate in Algeria: ready-to-use call and WhatsApp order confirmation scripts, fake-order filters, carriers' published return fees and a weekly checklist that protects your margin.

By [Rédaction DZ Ecommerce](https://dzecommerce.com/en/authors/redaction) · Published 2026-11-03 · Updated 2026-11-04

To **reduce the COD return rate in Algeria**, three levers matter most: confirm every order before it ships (phone call, WhatsApp or SMS), weed out fake and duplicate orders, and ship fast with the right delivery option. With COD (cash on delivery), the buyer pays the courier at the door, so every refused parcel costs the seller the outbound shipping, sometimes a return or storage fee, the packaging and the ad spend that produced the order.

There is no official published statistic on the **COD refusal rate in Algeria**. As a rough benchmark, a guide published on 5 April 2026 by [EasySell](https://easysellapp.com/blogs/wiki/algeria-ecommerce-cod-market-entry-shopify-2026), a Shopify app vendor, puts returns at around 15-20% in major cities such as Algiers, Oran and Constantine, and above 30% in rural wilayas (provinces) in the south. That is a vendor's estimate, not a measurement: the only figure that really counts is your own rate, calculated every week.

Whether you sell locally, from the diaspora or are studying the market from abroad, this guide covers why buyers refuse parcels, what a return costs under carriers' published terms, scripts you can copy, and tools that automate the sorting.

**Key takeaways**

- Confirm every order before you create the waybill (the "bordereau"), with a call first and then a written message.
- Block duplicates and unreachable numbers before shipping, not after.
- Offer stop desk delivery (a carrier pickup point where the buyer collects the parcel) at a clear price, and ship on the day of confirmation.
- Read your carrier's return terms: some charge for the return trip, others for storage.
- Track the return rate every week by product, by wilaya and by ad source.

## Why Algerian customers refuse COD parcels

Cash on delivery removes the risk for the buyer, and with it part of the buyer's commitment. The most common causes:

- **Impulse buying**: the order is placed in two taps from a Facebook or TikTok ad, then forgotten.
- **Misunderstood final price**: at the door, the customer discovers that delivery is added to the advertised price.
- **Slow delivery**: after several days, the customer has bought elsewhere or no longer has the cash.
- **Unreachable customer**: wrong number, phone switched off, incomplete address.
- **Product not as advertised**: size, colour or quality does not match the photos.
- **Fake orders**: duplicates, tests, and orders placed by competitors or bots.

Each has a specific fix, covered below.

## What a returned parcel really costs you

The return fee is only part of the loss. For each refused parcel, add up outbound shipping, any return fee, packaging, the order's ad cost, confirmation time and stock tied up in transit.

The rules carriers publish vary widely (terms checked on 3 November 2026):

- **Yalidine**: under its [general transport conditions](https://yalidine.app/app/conditions_transport.php) (August 2026 version), each parcel gets up to three home-delivery attempts within three days, or five relay-point attempts within five days, before it goes back to the sender. A returned parcel not collected within 10 days can be charged 10 DZD per day, and Yalidine may dispose of it after 90 days.
- **NOEST**: its general delivery terms provide for three delivery attempts; the parcel is then held at the hub for 24 hours and returned at the merchant's cost. (NOEST's site blocks automated reading; we checked an archived copy of these terms.)
- **Conexlog (UPS Algeria)**: the [2024 tariff guide](https://conexlog-dz.com/assets/tarif_ht_2024.pdf), valid since 29 December 2023 and still the one linked from its site, charges 840 DZD excluding tax per undeliverable shipment, on top of transport costs.
- **Maystro Delivery**: returns are free on the Premium pack only if your monthly return rate is 20% or less, according to its [pricing page](https://maystro-delivery.com/Pricing.html). No amounts are published.

A high return rate can also cost you a contractual advantage. To compare these terms before you sign, see our [checklist for choosing a delivery company](/en/shipping-logistics/how-to-choose-a-delivery-company-in-algeria).

## COD order confirmation in Algeria: phone, WhatsApp and SMS

**COD order confirmation in Algeria** checks four things: the customer exists, still wants the product, knows the total price including delivery, and has given a correct address or stop desk.

### Order confirmation call script

Call within a few hours of the order. Here is an **order confirmation call script** in Darija (Algerian Arabic), transliterated the way sellers type it, with an English gloss after each line:

1. "Salam alaykoum, m3ak [first name] men [store name]. Rak commandit [product], [size / colour]?" (Hello, this is [name] from [store]. You ordered [product], [size / colour]?)
2. "Le prix ta3ha [price] DA, w la livraison [fee] DA, ya3ni t5alles [total] DA 3and le livreur. Mlih?" (The price is [price] DA plus [fee] DA delivery, so you pay [total] DA to the courier. OK?)
3. "Nwasslouha l dar wela l stop desk ta3 [commune]? A3tini l'adresse kamla." (Home delivery or the stop desk in [commune]? Give me the full address.)
4. "Le livreur y3ayetlek f had le numéro. Kayen numéro wa7d akhor?" (The courier will call this number. Is there another one?)
5. "Tousslek f [lead time]. Saha, ya3tik saha." (It will reach you in [lead time]. Thank you.)

Simple rules: always state the **total**, have the customer repeat the address, and log every attempt. After three unanswered calls over two days, do not ship.

### WhatsApp order confirmation and SMS

A **WhatsApp order confirmation** complements the call by leaving a written record of the order summary. Example:

"Salam [first name], order no. [number]: [product], total [total] DA including delivery, delivered to [address / stop desk]. Reply YES to confirm."

Then send the tracking number at shipping and a reminder the day before delivery; SMS covers customers without WhatsApp. On the tooling side, the SMS extension of [Ecomanager](https://ecomanager.dz/fr/pricing) costs 7 DZD per SMS (through its partner Colitrack, price read on 3 November 2026), and DZBuild's WhatsApp Sender add-on sends buyers 5 automatic order messages (details below).

## Filter fake orders in Algeria before they ship

A fake order that ships costs a full round trip. Set up these filters:

- **Duplicates**: same name and same phone within 24 hours? Merge or cancel. Some carriers already enforce this: according to DZBuild's integration documentation, Terminal Delivery refuses an order with the same customer name and phone as an active order from the past 24 hours.
- **Invalid numbers**: wrong number of digits, an implausible prefix, or a number already linked to refusals.
- **Customer history**: keep a list of customers who have refused a parcel before; require a stricter confirmation or a deposit.
- **Unusual quantities**: ten units of a product people usually buy to try often signal a test or a mistake.
- **Blank or nonsense address**: no waybill without a valid commune (municipality).

Order-management tools automate part of this (see below).

## Delivery choices that cut refusals: stop desk, speed and parcel checks

The editorial team's view: stop desk delivery is worth offering wherever it exists. A customer who travels to collect a parcel shows real buying intent, and at Yalidine a relay point allows five attempts in five days against three for home delivery. Our guide [stop desk vs home delivery](/en/shipping-logistics/stop-desk-vs-home-delivery-algeria) explains when home delivery is still the better choice.

Other useful settings:

- **Ship on the day of confirmation**: every day of waiting cools the buyer down.
- **Show the price and lead time per wilaya** before the customer submits the order. DZBuild lets merchants set a home-delivery price, a stop desk price and a delivery time for each wilaya.
- **Allow parcel opening** where the carrier supports it: according to DZBuild's dzship documentation, the NOEST API supports the option that lets the customer open the parcel before paying, as well as exchanges.
- **Honest photos**: show the real product, with its dimensions.

## Tools to reduce the COD return rate in Algeria

### DZBuild, the editors' pick

For an Algerian merchant selling on COD, [DZBuild](/en/companies/dzbuild) is the editorial team's pick, based on criteria you can check (pages read on 3 November 2026):

- **Automatic sorting**: orders that look like bots, duplicates or spam move to a Spam tab, with a one-sentence reason and a button to put them back in Orders.
- **Fast confirmation**: Telegram order alerts carry Confirm and Cancel buttons.
- **WhatsApp Sender** (from the Pro plan): 5 automatic order messages to the buyer; message credit costs 4 DZD a message from 2,000 DZD, 3 DZD from 8,000 DZD and 2 DZD from 15,000 DZD.
- **Carriers**: more than 102 delivery companies according to the company (Yalidine, NOEST, Maystro, ZR Express, the EcoTrack network and others), orders sent in bulk 50 at a time, and stop desk lists synced from 14 carriers.
- **Two-way sync** with Ecomanager, if your confirmation team already uses it.
- **Pricing** ([pricing page](https://dzbuild.com/pricing), read on 3 November 2026): Pro at 1,000 DZD a month, Unlimited at 2,500 DZD, Enterprise from 5,500 DZD; a 3-day Pro trial with no card, and no commission on sales according to the company. Stores and dashboard run in Arabic or French.

**Promo code:** WELCOME15 — 15% off your first payment.

For a full look at plans and features before you sign up, read our [DZBuild review](/en/tools/dzbuild-review-pricing-promo-code).

### Ecomanager for confirmation teams

[Ecomanager](/en/companies/ecomanager) assigns orders awaiting confirmation to your agents by criteria you set, automatically flags unreliable customers and duplicate orders, and logs every confirmation attempt. A "return risk" extension scores customers from their delivery history (listed at 1200 on the pricing page, with no currency or billing period stated). Plans start at 4,500 DZD excluding tax per month for 500 orders (read on 3 November 2026), with a 15-day free trial. See our [Ecomanager guide](/en/tools/ecomanager-algeria-review-pricing).

### Outsourced call centres

Without an in-house team, confirmation can be outsourced. [CO Livraison](/en/companies/co-livraison) says its call centre calls every customer before shipping, in Darija, French or whatever language the customer answers in; Maystro Delivery also lists a call-centre service. Neither publishes its prices: rates come from the sales team.

## Weekly return-rate checklist and next steps

Every week, set aside 30 minutes to:

1. Calculate the return rate: parcels returned divided by parcels shipped, on closed orders.
2. Break it down by product, wilaya, carrier and ad campaign.
3. Cut or fix the products and wilayas above your threshold.
4. Review the confirmation calls behind refused parcels: wrong price announced, vague address, delivery too slow?
5. Update your list of high-risk customers.
6. Collect returns waiting at the carrier before storage fees kick in.
7. Check that shipping follows confirmation on the same day.

Start this week with the call script and the WhatsApp message, then automate duplicate filtering. If you are launching or migrating a store, compare the options in our [guide to the best e-commerce platform in Algeria](/en/ecommerce/best-e-commerce-platform-in-algeria).

## FAQ

### What is a normal COD return rate in Algeria?

No official statistic is published. A guide from the Shopify app vendor EasySell (5 April 2026) estimates returns at around 15-20% in major cities and above 30% in rural wilayas (provinces) in the south. Use those figures as a rough benchmark only, then measure your own rate every week, by product and by wilaya.

### Who pays the return fee when a customer refuses a parcel?

Usually the merchant, depending on the carrier contract. NOEST's terms return the parcel at the merchant's cost, Conexlog's 2024 tariff guide charges 840 DZD excluding tax per undeliverable shipment, and Maystro offers free returns (Premium pack) only if the monthly return rate does not exceed 20%.

### What should I say on an order confirmation call?

Introduce yourself with the store name, restate the product and its variant, announce the total to pay including delivery, ask the customer to repeat the address or stop desk (carrier pickup point), check the phone number and give the expected lead time. Log every attempt and do not ship after three unanswered calls.

### Should I ask customers for a deposit before shipping?

The editorial team's view: not from every customer, because a deposit discourages ordering. Keep it for customers who have refused a parcel before, for high-value orders, or for the wilayas where your return rate is highest. A CIB or Edahabia card payment can act as a deposit if your store accepts it.

### Does WhatsApp confirmation reduce returns?

It does not replace the call, but it gives the customer a written record of the product, the total and the address, which avoids misunderstandings about the price. Combine a confirmation message, a shipping message with the tracking number and a reminder the day before delivery.
